12 April Checking In

Been sick since I got back from Chicago Tuesday morning. Today I woke up with some energy and am catching up on stuff.

Couple of thoughts: (i) one sneeze on a plane and the whole world is infected; (ii) if I die in my bed no one will know until the smell hits the hallways. I aim to construct some kind of thing where at least someone that knows me can take over the burden of my corpse and emails and stuff should this place finally prevail over my shitty health.

Watched two good films on the plane.

  1. (i) I was just talking about this with a friend over breakfast. She got mono while abroad and didn't know it until she visited her doc upon her return. She doesn't like to consider how contagious she was on that plane ride home!
(ii) A beloved UW librarian emeritus passed away last week, found dead of natural causes in his office in Suzzallo. It happens. We get found. We're mourned as we corporeally decompose and our legacy wafts into the universal brain. Think butterfly effect: what we do matters. The royal We gratefully accepts the honor of disposing of your remains. (But if you can try and put that off a few decades, we'd all be quite grateful.)
